9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge—10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.
We've arrived at week 5 of 7 total as we memorize all of Psalm 91. If you're just joining us, welcome!
These verses point us back to verse 1, which says, "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty." We are called to not be drive-by tourists, but "abiders", long-term dwellers. May we learn to make God our dwelling place, the place that gives us ultimate shape & identity. From this place, nothing can plague us without us knowing that all things work out for our good (Romans 8:28)! He is our refuge, our fortress.
Also note the intentional effort: "because you have made..." This is an ongoing & repeated decision, not merely a "one time decision". While we can only do this by his power, it absolutely takes healthy habit & effort & discipline to joyfully abide in him. The wise man built his house on the rock, the foolish on the sand. Where do you build your life? On things that last or temporary ones? On God's Word or man's words? On Christ's blood-bought covenantal promises or man's empty promises? What practical steps can you take to make your dwelling place in the Lord this week?
